I am ecstatic tonight. We're still waiting around for the rest of the results to come in. If Antonio Villaraigosa does hold on and win, this is one of the great moments in Los Angeles history. He is only one man and what he can do is limited but I am just so happy to see that he may win tonight. It's so hard to list all my feelings and emotions and reasons on this. So I will sum this up. Villaraigosa represents the best of Los Angeles while James Hahn is a Democratic version of George Dubya Bush.
Currently with 56% of precints reporting, Villaraigosa leads 59%-40% which is what I predicted. Although, he may now win over 60% of the vote when it is all said and done. That's my hope anyway. Antonio is about to give his acceptance speech, hopefully soon. Tonight is a huge night for the Democratic Party too. Why is this? Because Antonio Villaraigosa won huge majorities not just among hispanics but among whites (59%-40%) and blacks (58%-41%), absolutely incredible. Los Angeles may be a blue city but let us not forget, we are very diverse all around. It is important to remember that in fact, we can put together latino and black coalitions (and white too). This is the first time this has really happenned. I guess now can say "Obama/Villaraigosa 2008!".
