The social-conservative base is nearly as turned off by the Bush record as the rest of us are. They are very likely to sit out the next election, and that is bad news for Republican candidates. The Illinois far-right plans to present a referendum on the ballot. It's an advisory referendum stating that the state constitution should ban gay marriages. It has no chance of passage, but that isn't the pupose; the purpose is to turn out the wingnut base.
"Fair Illinois" a mostly-gay consortium agaist that ballot initiative is sponsoring an examination of the petitions to get the referendum on the ballot. If you live in the Chicago area, really consider giving them some time. The time needed most is during normal working hours. Contacts:
