There is a remarkable legal case in the news today:

Summarizing, a single woman put her newborn child up for adoption. The adoptive parents seem like great people. Then, the child's distant father sued to be granted custody of the child. Fearing (with cause) he might prevail, the woman sued the adoptive parents for her child to be returned to her, rather than risking the child be returned to the father. She prevailed.
Perosnally, I am militant pro-choice. I now realize I might need to extend my pro-choice views to being anti-father. And, yes, I am twice a father. I would give the unwed mother the sole right to deem the child's father unfit and to place the child up for adoption. And, I'm not being "fair" here at all- I would give her the sole right to instead keep the child and demand support from the father.
Her call- him at her mercy, so to speak. The man has no interest here to protect, unless she decides he does.
