It looks likely that John Thune, former South Dakota Congressman and Republican nominee for Senate in 2002, will run against Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle in 2004.

Daschle usually wins without any trouble, but Thune just ran a strong statewide campaign, losing by only a few hundred votes. Polls show Daschle beating Thune by a small amount, usually around 46-40. Daschle has raised $4 million, and plans to raise $6 million more. He also has one of the strongest campaign staffs out there.
