Why won't Bloomberg stand up for gays?

Michael Bloomberg, it was reported today here, personally supports gay marriage.  Yet he not only refuses to stand by repectfully after a judge has declared gays deserve equal rights to marry, he also has ordered city lawyers to begin a stand off with the courts by appealing the decision!

Mayor Bloomberg, why won't you stand up for what you yourself and most other New Yorkers know is fair?  Why won't you stand up for gay rights?

And while we're at it, why is the MTA raising fares while accepting a low-ball offer of $100M on the west side stadium site from your buddies, at your behest?  Why did your buddies disparage a $600M offer from another buyer as a cheap political shot?  

Why are you giving out tax refunds to property owners while cutting services and underfunding our schools, Mayor Bloomberg?

Why won't you stand up for what you say believe in?
