Has anybody else noticed that this announcement is timed perfectly to dovetail with the release of the Gibson film? The entire nation already has its mind (and spirit, if you like) turned to religion for this weekend, and churches are organizing outings to the movies by the hundreds. What better time to make a move for your religious base?
They're not fools, that's for certain, but I do believe they over reach.
That said, here's what I wish either Kerry or Edwards would come out and say:
"The President says that its time to protect the institution of marriage. He obviously believes it to be under threat. But the President already has a record of identifying a perceived threats, and reacting with haste rather than reason. So I'd ask all you to stand back with me for a moment and let us examine this threat from which marriage should be protected before we, as a nation, jump headlong into a serious endeavor like amending our Constitution, an endeavor designed to divide us."
What's your favorite/longed for response from Kerry/Edwards to Bush's announcement?
