People. People. People.
I see too many making apologies for Kos's statements. I hope you all see Kos is being 'Deaned'. And no, this one incident will not bring DailyKos down, but like the attacks on Dean's supposed 'anger' problem (he HAS no anger problem) this will be the first volley.
Kos has the rightwingers running scared. He is raising money. He is giving voice and access to people who have not had access before. I might also add it wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't haev a few WITHIN the Democratic party scared. He is being Deaned. Do not be tools. Do not allow them to do this to DailyKos.
My own opinion:
I AGREE WITH WHAT KOS SAID

I AGREE WITH WHAT KOS SAID
We have private armies of mercenaries, paid for by taxpayer money through contractors, but governed by no one but the corporations they work for, all over Iraq.
Folks- this is wrong. This essentially allows Bush to conduct the war however he sees fit, outside the channels of military procedure and operation. The potential for abuse is endless.
This administration has YET to attend a funeral of an Iraqi soldier.
This administration continues to cut pay and benefits for soldiers in the field while allowing Haliburton, etc. to hire $30,000 a month mercenaries.
War is a serious business, not a business opportunity. The 'businessmen-mercenaries' took a risk. It did not pay off. But it is BEYOND SICK to suggest that their deaths are any different than the 600+ deaths of American Soldiers, who have, to quote Clinton, worked hard and played by the rules.
Kos is angry because he is disgusted by this. I am too. He is angry because he sees what this kind of atmosphere can do to a country and to a people. He has lived it.
And I am sickened by how we are willing to cut tail and run as soon as the right decides to mount a smear campaigned aimed at ultimately destroying Kos and our voice. What would THEY do?
They would force the facts above into the public discussion - ask why Bush isn't going to funerals (oh right- he has to spend all that time in front of the 9-11 commission, which is of course taking time away from all those rodeos).
I know a lot of people have written supportive diaries urging action. This is another one.
