In order to keep the key point where it will be most visible, I'll begin at the end.
A "National Strike for Truth" is counter productive.

My reasoning follows.
First let me say I was raised by a single mother of 3 who did not cross picket lines, so I don't make this choice easily.
I learned to read from books about the Civil Rights Movement and I lost my taste for table grapes after all those years supporting the United Farm Workers' boycott. I completely support peaceful civil disobedience and I understand the drive to do something dramatic, but you're not making friends by keeping innocent people from pursuing happiness. You don't prove anything to anyone when you sacrifice OTHER people's time and property. It's as effective as carpet bombs for winning hearts and minds; as likely as imposing peace and stability with an AK-47.
Bull Connor and George Wallace could not have done more to help pass the 1964 Voting Rights Act if they'd campaigned for it. When they turned fire hoses and vicious dogs on peaceful men, women & children, the country saw what assholes they were. Now the country is seeing what assholes Neocons are. Even republicans & the MSM are waking up. Especially those who consider themselves R's because they think it's in their business interests. They're beginning to see the way Dick & the Boys give with one hand and take with the other. You do not want to alienate John & Jane Q. Republican by forcing them to sit in traffic and lose money. Those are two things they hate the most and they will blame you for it. Similarly, taking money from struggling schools is the other thing they hate the most, so please reconsider that, too.
"So, what CAN we do?" you say? My ideas for modern civil disobedience are in the next diary that I'll have wait until tomorrow to post.
If you think the POV I've expressed is valid, even if you disagree, I hope you'll add your comments, but recommend.
