Once upon a time the people of Kos wanted to win back their country. It was decided that good ideas and fight were not the best option; door to door grass root support was, thats for the moment let the GOP dig their own grave, so the Dems did and did not come up with their own policy, this is their story, this is also the story of joe public....
<knock knock knock>
:door opens:
Kosite : "Hi am am __, I represent the Democratic party, do you have a few minute to talk?"
Potential Voter : "Sure. You know I am so angry at politicians, this year I think I am doing the same as my husband and not voting. Nobody represents me, last time there was no choice, Bush or Kerry. As we were at war i didn't want to risk putting Kerry in. Anyway, what are you going to do differently"?;
Kosite: "Well we have lots of good ideas, but we are keeping them close to our chest so they cannot be pulled apart by the other guys and ROVE", the kosite shudders as he says the word.
Potential Voter : "Sorry? You have ideas, but you think the other side can just pull them apart? If they are good, then they are good, no? And if they are good you still need people in the senate and house to agree to get them through right? Even if you leave it until close to submitting the bills, this Rove fella will just pull them apart then if they are bad? So you have no confidence in your own ideas? Even YOU think they can be pulled apart that easily? Thats the strangest pitch i have ever heard."
Kosite : "Erm well yeah basically. We thought it would be a good political plan because Rove is so good at spinning our policies. He is scary. But I can tell you just how bad the other guys are, they have lots of ideas we can easily pull apart! Like they are for big businesses like Wal-Mart they are the devil!"
Potential voter : "I like Wal-Mart I bough a TV there for $200 when my old one broke. I could not afford anywhere else, my wages have gone down by 20% over the past year. What are you going to do about that?"
Kosite : "Well I cannot say! Not just yet, not until closer to the the election. We have a whole country to try and motivate! But did you know that the Bush team want to privatize social security?"
Potential voter : "Not from what I have read, they want private accounts. I would say privatization would be more than 4%. I don't like the idea, but what you are telling me is incorrect. I don't like the Republicans I am looking for another option, is there anything you can say that will help me in the real World, with my real world problems? My mother cannot afford to buy her drugs she is diabetic, at least Bush signed a bill that pays for them."
Kosite : "But he is bankrupting the nation doing that! We have huge deficits we cannot afford it!"
Potential voter : "But it helped my mother, it was one of the only things that a politician has done that has had a positive impact on somebody's life I know. You cannot give me one thing, come to think of it, I haven't heard a single good idea from you guys for what? For over 4 years now. Maybe the Republicans are right, all you care about is attacking the other guy. I always thought that's what they did, but in the last 4 years it seems to have changed. Come on you must stand for something"
Kosite : "Sure we do! The Democratic party is the party of the people, the little guy. Jesus was a Democrat!"
Potential voter : "But you voted for taking fund out of my pension plan in Chicago. How is that fighting for the little guy?"
Kosite : "Look at how bad the Economy is!"
Potential voter : "But the Economy grew at 4% last year. Clinton left us in a recession."
Kosite : "No he didn't, it's all lies. The recession was manufactured, after Bush got in power."
Potential voter : "But even liberal think tanks admit there was a recession. All I have heard from you people is the impending financial collapse that never came. It seems as if you WANT a financial collapse. But what worries me most is how you tend to exagerate things, just like Bush does. Why carn't one of you be stright with us? I wanted you to fight for the lies Bush told us going in to war, you did not. It was clear he lied, clear as day, unlike some of the other things you want to talk about. I wanted you to stand up for something, you did not. You just knocked their bad ideas, nobody likes the guy who just says "you don't want to do it like that" and gives no other options. Americans do not like that. What about the environment? Where do you stand there I am really worried about the amount of Mercury in the environment. I heard their was a link to Autism."
Kosite : "The Democrats are the part that cares for the environment! We always have been, here we see eye to eye."
Potential voter : "But didn't nearly half your senators vote for Bush's energy bill that didn't attempt to regulate emissions?"
Kosite : "We did, but not because we agreed with all of it! We just had to get it through, or it would have looked bad. Bush was pressuring us and Rove would have framed us as the people allowing gas prices to stay high."
Potential voter : "You seem to be more concerned with this Rove than the impacts on the environment. But I still do not understand, you voted for something you didn't fully agree with, not on the basis of it's worth, but for other reasons? So they could not make you look bad? Shouldn't this be about the country and not about looking bad? Shouldn't this be about what you stand for and not short term political gain? I would respect that MUCH more. Come to think of it there is not one thing you said that I can respect, I mean I hate the GOP and Bush and it's great to shoot some shit over how bad they are. But I am not going to vote for somebody unless they have ideas, that seem to make sense to me."
Kosite : "Well that's a very weird way to look at politics.
Potential voter : "I am not looking at politics that way. You seem to have forgotten politics is about making my life and the World a better place, not individual gain. That's what you Democrats seem to have lost track of. You have no ideas. You have not come up with a single thing that will help me in any way."
Kosite : "I guess this is a lost cause then?"
Potential voter : "For people like me it is a lost cause. When will a party that represents me come along? When will somebody come up with a positive policy that resurrects pride in this country? When will a party run on a positive platform, a platform of hope and prosperity? Oh fuck it, I guess I am not voting like 50% of the country. Good day"
The END, of the Democratic party.
