Lost in the Terry Schiavo tragedy (and it is just that--but the tragedy occured 15 years ago, and doesn't neccessitate congressional action) is the fact that 10 people were shot and killed at a school in Minnesota yesterday.
I bring this up because within George Bush's (and Tom Delay's and Bill Frist's and the rest of the far-right's) "culture of life"* there is no talk of how to prevent needless and senseless deaths--reasonable gun control.
And while I dare not claim to know all the facts about the guns used in the school shooting, I think its safe to say that trigger-locks, mandatory waiting periods, or bans on certain assault rifles would SAVE LIVES everyday in every city in America.
But to the Republican oligarchy, I guess "the culture" doesn't so much care about the sorts of lives being lost to such acts.
*"Culture of life" is one of those genius (and I mean that) Republican phrasings that paints Democrats into a corner. If we oppose Republicans, by extension we oppose their beliefs. When they phrase their beliefs as such, we suddenly oppose the phrase as well...and the opposite of "Culture of life" is not a phrase we need support. Let's start figuring out how to talk about this issue on OUR terms.
