So many excellent diaries float away without ever getting much attention at all. How many of us have not watched one of our better efforts fade unnoticed? This was brought home in another way today while I read through some of the Koufax nominees for best post of the year. True, there's some pretty good reading on offer. But heck, I've seen many equally insightful posts that are almost totally forgotten...because barely anybody was paying attention at the time they went up.
Wherein an experiment that might prove interesting is proposed: I'd like to ask the weekend crowd to single out the one diary of their own that they think most deserves wider recognition. If modesty intervenes, you may elude her dictates by drawing attention instead to a post by somebody else. Not the diary from this morning or this week, which you're convinced deserves another look. Please take the long view. What is your best overlooked work from the past year or two?
To put it another way, if I were compiling a collection of the best of Daily Kos (from the pre-impeachment years), a collection concentrating on the less well known nuggets hidden in the archives, what piece of yours would you want to be considered for inclusion? What will stand up over time? Ten years from now, what could you trot out to show friends or family about those heady days of the blogosphere?
I'd be interested to see what some of my favorite writers would nominate. I try to keep up, but I know that I've missed quite a few over the years. If you'll investigate and comment on one or two of the diaries that people are dusting off, it should make for an interesting discussion.
And though it's hard to resist the temptation to pile them up, do your best to resist. One long-lost diary per customer, please, so that we have some chance to read.
I'll post a link to my own favorite forgotten nugget in a comment. Enjoy!
