"We the people," what a grand phrase. What a noble ideal! We inspired the movement for global democracy, which began in ancient Athens and in the Roman Republic thousands of years ago. It is a beautiful dream, but to many of us it seems like only a dream. As John Lennon sang, "Was it just a dream?" That beautiful dream ended 6 years ago, and now we are in the midst of a national nightmare. It was, ironically, the "Republican" Party which destroyed the American Republic and replaced it with a quasi-dictatorship, beginning with a coup d'etat in 2000 and despite Senator Jeffords honorable decision to switch parties, was completed with a complete takeover of all 3 branches of government shortly thereafter.
Do you feel free?
What do the words "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" mean to you today?
A cruel joke?
A promise unfulfilled?
A legacy stolen?
Do we now life in a de facto totalitarian regime?
