A claim bouncing around radio forums right now is that Arthur Liu at Multicultural Radio Broadcasting, Inc. stole money from Air America. The claim is that MRBI double-charged Air America for the same station, that Air America said Liu couldn't cash their checks until the matter's settled, and that Liu then took them of the air.
Disclaimer: Radio forums thrive on industry rumors.
In any case, the big quote so far is from Air America chairman Evan Cohen in the Chicago Tribune. In response to Liu's story, Cohen says, "That is an outright lie."
The Majority Report's blog says MRBI is using the Chicago station as leverage while trying to get a sweeter deal on the Los Angeles station. Essentially, they're trying to get more money because Air America's been more successful than expected.
Also, in an indication that Air America is nowhere near failing, they're actually adding new stations.
Currently, Air America is taking up the entire top half of The Drudge Report. You've got to admit, for an upstart radio network, Air America sure knows how to make headlines.
