I just hear on Air America that Bush is holding a news conference about 20 minutes from now. According to YahooNews:
"President Bush will hold an end-of-the-year news conference on Monday at 10:30 a.m. EST, the White House announced.
In an opening statement, Bush will review the past year and focus on the year ahead, stressing the importance of overhauling the Social Security system and of trying to limit large damage awards from medical malpractice lawsuits, aides said.
He will also talk about the importance of Iraq's Jan. 30 elections amid chaos and bloodshed there and his plans for proposing a U.S. federal budget early in the new year that aides said will hold the line on spending."
(One of these I'm gonna have to learn how to do text box!)
Take the poll!
Update: Well, I sat through it. Here are some highlights:
Number of times he referred to ss as a "problem": 7
Number of times her referred to ss as "in crisis": 5
No follow-up questions allowed. He thought this was funny. When asked about immigration, at one point he started yelling."
On Iraq vs. Iran or Korea: "Diplomacy failed in Iraq for 13 years."
Other funny (ha-ha) quotes:
"I'm not going to negotiate with myself."
"I repeat, don't bother to ask me . . no, you can ask me, that's not in the holiday spirit."
"Free societies don't fight each other."
"People working to become a citizenship."
"I know Secretary Rumsfeld's heart. He's a good and decent man who cares deeply about the military."
"Our deficits are caused by entitlement programs."
The press was soft, but granted, he filibustered his way around every answer. Whoever chose "blah blah blah" in the poll wins the prize!!
