In Texas, the primary was on March 9 (due to redistricting), but voting for your candidate is only half of the story. Delegates for each candidate are elected at a precinct convention afterwards. I was elected as a Kucinich delegate, while the four other people who showed up that night became Kerry delegates. Which leads to the state senate district convention on March 27.
Beforehand, the Houston Kucinich people had a meeting to strategize on how to get as many delegates as possible. If a certain candidate reaches 15% of the attendees at a convention, then that candidate is guaranteed a percentage of delegates to the state convention in June in Houston.
State Senator John Whitmire chaired the meeting at first. We had a roll call vote where each candidate's delegates raised their hands to be counted. Kerry had three-fourths of the delegates. Kucinich made the 15% threshold. There were delegates for Edwards, Clark, & this guy Uncommitted, but none of them made the threshold. After that, Whitmire let various Democrat candidates speak about their campaigns off & on (Did y'all know that currently there are no Democrat judges at all in the Harris county state courts? Same thing with all Texas statewide offices.) While this was going on, our precinct & the one we were paired with realized this was the time to caucus. So we stepped into the hall, & held a vote on delegates to the State convention. The other precinct chair's wife was elected as delegate (she was a member of the credentials committee) & I was elected as an alternate.
Afterwards were the resolutions. Most of them seemed to be from Dennis Kucinich's platform. By now Sen. Whitmire had left, & Texas Rep. (and two time Houston mayoral candidate) Sylvester Turner was chair. We passed resolutions in favor of medical marijuana , gay marriage, family farms,& single payer healthcare (Medicare for everyone!) The last resolution was one saying George Bush was a jerk. Sylvester Turner admended it to say he should be removed. It passed unanimously.
