I thought that as I wait for the Wisconsin voters to choose their democratic candidate, I would take a moment to commend the national news media for its unbiased coverage of the Democratic Primary. Beautiful job guys.
ABC News: They ran a segment on Howard Dean's state trooper beating his wife. Now, I am not sure why this was deemed to be imminently news worthy to make it to the nightly half-hour news on January 15th, four days before the Iowa Caucuses: it was neither timely, nor had anything to do with any candidates history or campaign. But then again, I'm not as smart as Peter Jennings. Excellent job, ABC!
CBS: They had the moral integrity to refuse to show the Moveon ad during the Superbowl, but they did have the moral integrity to show Janet's nipple piercing. Ouch! I'm confused, but I'll admit I'm not as smart as CBS's Les Moonves either. Wonderful!
CNN: They played the Dean-scream 653 times. Come on, it could have been 654 times. And thank God they offered a lame apology only once, because by then I was really getting sick of the whole "scream" thing. Fantastic!
FOX: They are, "Fair and balanced." Do I need to say more?
NBC News: On Monday February 2nd, the day before Democratic Primaries occurred in seven states, NBC News ran a timely segment on "special interest" money. Andrea Mitchell, wife of Alan Greenspan, concluded the report by saying, "One thing is clear, the candidates are all equally in bed with special interest money." Then on February 17, NBC News ran another segment comparing Bush and Kerry and their ties to special interest groups. Here, the NBC sleuths made the exact statement that Washington Post had made on January 31: Kerry had received more special-interest money than any other senator in the past 15 years. Of course, if NBC had said this two weeks earlier, we might still be having a competitive primary. Oh well, what do I know. Who wants a real primary anyway?
