NE-03: DCCC dives in

Mon Oct 30, 2006 at 02:39:50 PM PDT

The DCCC just confirmed to me that they will go on the air in NE-03.

They have a lot to work with, given the excellent candidate in Scott Kleeb and the excellent target in Republican Adrian Smith. Smith isn't just too far right for this district, but he's being bankrolled by the virulently anti-agricultural subsidies Club for Growth in one of the most agricultural districts in the country.

Meanwhile, the NRCC is playing defense in Republican strongholds in CO-05, NV-03, and WY-AL.

Update: The DCCC will also go up in NV-03 starting tomorrow. This is the race between Jon Porter (R) and former Reid staffer Tessa Hafen (D).

Update II: The full list of late-breaking races in which the DCCC will air ads, send direct mail, and/or help out in other ways:

WA-05  KY-02  NV-03
PA-04  IL-10  NE-03
FL-16  NY-26  NJ-07
MN-01  NV-02  KY-03
NY-25  NH-02  KS-02
CA-11

Update III: From the crappy-ass The Note:

The House is much more of a jumble. Some smart Democrats say they have 8 net seats in the bank, but might not win any more than 12 total. And there are smart Republicans saying they will lose at least 22 and as many as 42. There are still a lot of "entrenched" Republican incumbents who are not far ahead (or are even behind), and are thus not comfortable, including in some very Red places, and in some classic Purple Zones. (Yes, we mean you, Charlie Bass.)

Lots of expectations game stuff. 22 Seems to be the median consensus pick. 42 is crazy, but within the realm of possibilities. 12 is crazy, but also within the realm of possibilities. It all comes down to whether the GOP can prevent the dam from bursting. They are in a fight against the clock.
