Okay,
I certainly believe that Jesus was a political activist in his times, and a dangerous one at that. If he were not a threat to the status quo, he most likely would not have been executed. But apparently not everyone thinks so. From the comments on Blog for America:
Jesus took no stand on social policy or issues of The Empire. The apostle Paul was more then happy to afford himself of its protection, including armed legion escort.
Jesus would have nothing to do with the peace movement. Blessed are the peacemakers is not a social statement.
Anyone good with scripture here willing to take a whack at this? I
know there are good retorts to this claim, but it's past my bedtime and I need to be up early. But I thought I'd put this out there for anyone who has a good response. It's not the first time the person has made such a claim, and I doubt it will be the last. Would love to have good answers at the ready the next time this comes up....
