As long as it didn't alter Joe Lieberman's personal political status, no real change occurred.
Via Think Progress:
On Tuesday, Democrats picked up six seats in the Senate and at least 29 seats in the House, taking control of both chambers for the first time in 12 years. Not a single Democratic incumbent lost. Today on Meet the Press, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) said this was "not a major realignment election" and "both major political parties...[are] in a kind of probation."
As long as his own house was still standing, Joe could stand in the middle of a devastated earthquake zone and deny that anybody's windows were rattled.
Irritated Afterthought Update: Can anyone imagine Republicans going on Sunday talk shows in the wake of their 1994 takeover of Congress and stating that they thought their party was "on probation?" Ye gods.
