Write to HBO. Many of you joined me last summer to discuss each episode of Deadwood, and you were big fans. If you're as irate and disappointed as I, I hope you'll let HBO know. Here's my letter to HBO this morning:
I am appalled to learn that you have canceled Deadwood. If but for Deadwood and The Sopranos, I would have cancelled my subscription long ago. Big Love is tepid entertainment; most of the characters are unappealing and I dislike the subject matter. Entourage is entertaining but not worth the subscription price. Larry David stopped being funny long ago.
With Deadwood and The Sopranos ending, what's left for fans of intense, character-driven drama? Rome was alright but I could wait to rent the DVD. The same goes for Elizabeth.
Deadwood evoked such passion that I set up well-attended discussions every Sunday night last summer on two prominent political blogs, including Daily Kos. I couldn't believe how many fans of Deadwood showed up every Sunday night to chat about the show on these political blogs -- and how closely they followed every plot development. All of those fans, probably unknown to you, will be extremely disappointed in your decision.
