Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry confirmed his political viability in the rural, conservative South on Tuesday, winning the Virginia primary, and handily defeating southerners Wesley Clark and John Edwards, his closest rivals for the Democratic nomination, according to NBC News projections.
According to pre-voting polls, Kerry is also poised for a big win in Tennessee, where polls close an hour later.
