"Larry Noble, former chief counsel of the Federal Election Commission, said the film's ads, which are apt to paint Bush unfavorably, risked drawing complaints that campaign spending restrictions should apply to the movie's promotion. But unless the ads run in the final 60 days of the campaign and specifically call for Bush's defeat or the election of Kerry, he said, the commission is apt to reject the complaints."
Also, David Poland gives an unsurprisingly, unconvincing negative review: http://www.thehotbutton.com/today/hot.button/2004_thb/040610_thu.html
Like much of Poland's reviews, he doesn't like the film because it doesn't conform to how he thinks the movie should have been made, rather than it own merits. I haven't seen the film, but it looks like Poland never really saw it either.
There seems to be alot of Moore bashing coming from "the industry" these days...whether they are truly upset at his possibly disingenuous cry of foul at Disney or whether they are just jealous because he pulled such a fantastic marketing coup, one can only guess.
14 days to go on this one. I plan to buy tickets for my Republican/Independent parents via Fandango.
There's no doubt that at this point, it will make money. It cost 6 million to make, and it should garner at least Bowling for Columbine's take of $22m. But will it be a phenomenon, a Passion-like juggernaut, or will it simply preach it's word to the converted and move into DVD land come late October with only a slight ripple?
