If it's Tuesday, then it's MY turn to do Top Comments!
And I do enjoy this gig... I feel like I have hundreds, nay, thousands of close friends and correspondents who feel free to rant and rave about all the things that matter to me - hot damn!
Could get boring but it never does - I don't say it enough but thank you, Markos, for this incredible place (and don't ban me PLEASE 'cause I accidentally, unintentionally violated the copyright thingy on BeninSC's diary Sunday night!!!!)... and I am not trying to steal nonnie-niner's gig - there's a RED BIRD sitting on this tiger's nose - can you see it?
Worst news for Monday, December 18, 2006:
W.Va. miner killed in roof fall

MAIDSVILLE, W.Va. - A Preston County man died in a weekend roof fall at a northern West Virginia coal mine, becoming the 47th fatality nationwide this year. Electrician John Elliott, 26, of Newburg died Sunday night at Dana Mining Co.'s Prime No. 1 mine in Monongalia County, said Amy Louviere, spokeswoman for the federal Mine Safety & Health Administration.
Terry Farley, administrator for the state Office of Miners' Health, Safety and Training, said three workers were riding in a rubber-tired vehicle when the roof collapsed at an intersection. "Two of the men were able to jump or bail out, and tragically, the victim was not," Farley said ...
Since January, 47 coal miners have been killed on the job, MSHA said — 24 of them in West Virginia. ... Coal mining fatalities had declined steadily after the 1977 passage of the Mine Safety and Health Act, and between 1993 and 1999, not a single underground coal miner died in a fire or explosion.
There was a setback in 2001, when 13 miners died in explosions at the Jim Walter Resources No. 5 Mine in Alabama...
Why the emphasis? A Democratic administration, of course... please remember those who keep your computer humming... I call this photo 'Coal Dust Kisses'...
Stupid News for the day: Miss USA is going to rehab but won't lost her title - I think 'cause she looks too much like Donald Trump's various wives. ARRGGHH!
Best cartoon I saw today - well, it may not be new to you but was to me and seemed appropriate given today's headlines and recommended diaries:
.
But while I was looking through my collected images, I saw this one and wanted to share it - seems so appropriate today...
... check out the size of that, um, package - I'm figuring the artist had some insider knowledge (Laura is a tattle-tale?).

NOMINATIONS FROM THE FIELD
From nonnie9999:
In his own diary about the plight of activist, Rosemarie Jackowski, kestrel9000 shares this.
In Deviltower's diary , where Abu Ghraib is melded with Sesame Street (go see the title, I kid you not! Well, i kid you a little), the always excellent Dallasdoc talks about Burt and Ernie (no, he doesn't!, but I got your attention, didn't I?), and Nightprowlkitty responds, citing what the relevant Executive Order says. Matt Z spells out the media's handling of the issue, while Dania Audax helps him out with a visual. GreyHawk links to an article that will keep you awake at night.
This is unusual when nominating top comments, but please go to GreyHawk's diary, and, if you don't have time to read the entire thing, at the very least, read the quotes in the quoteboxes. I cannot think of better comments.--nonnie
From terrypinder:
From Chavez shows his True Colors, a diary that willfully misinterpreted a BBC artcle. this comment by londanium sets the record straight.
From kestrel9000:
Today's diary\
returns us to the situation of Rosemarie Jackowski and the vile, contemptible attacks on her by members of the Little Green Footballs haters club. One of the things we are asking people to do is compose letters to the editors of Vermont newspapers, as well as to Governor Douglas. Letters to Governor Douglas should be mailed not to him directly, but to kossack vtpeace, who will gather them and make arrangements to ship them to Montpelier, where they will be hand delivered en masse, probably by odum.
Here are some letters that appeared in the thread: by possum; by 4freedom, and another by 4freedom.
Anyway, as we see from this comment, we have LGF infiltrated! Heh. I haven't been banned yet by ChenZhen.
And one more: It's a safe bet.
From Cronesense:
In the Diary: A rare victory for justice by Carnacki:
N in Seattle makes an overwhelming understatement.
Also, see Steve Singiser on history's judgment.
From Elise:
MrMichaelMT makes an excellent point about privacy regarding Laura Bush and a woman's right to choose.
Pager sums up her feelings on choice quite nicely here.
MissLaura and Bob Johnson (and others) discuss which Generals Bush is going to take advice from now that they've stated they don't want to increase troop levels.
DHinMI discusses apolitical folks who were motivated to work for Democrats by Bush's appalling agenda and notes that Bush's decisions will likely harm the Republican Party.
clonecone and Big Tent Democrat - offer helpful advice to Obama.
Top Mojo to follow in comments - this sucker has been giving me fits for the last 40 minutes... ARRGGHH!
Send your top comments, always, to TopComments AT gmail.com - love to get them and give YOU credit for the find.
