...that my snarky, ironic comments in every thread have dropped off considerably? I'm here just as often, and I have those urges more than ever, but I am showing great restraint! I've also refrained from wasting space in the Diaries unless I have something constructive to say... this post not included.
As long as you're here though, let's talk about this notion of self-restraint.
The Diaries have gone haywire, It takes about five minutes for a great, thought-provoking post by some intelligent person to get pushed off the chart by ten repetitious wastes of time (like this one.) I saw teh same news story scroll by on the Diaries about ten times today... each time as "breaking news!"
But then, one man's waste of time is another man's thought-provoking commentary. This is a tough subject.
Anyway, I know that I am not alone when I state that the Diaries have turned into a itty-bitty little blogging universe. It is great that we have this community.
I would hate to see some manner of restriction put in place to control the Diaries, but they are obviously out-of-control. Do you really need to know that I think the theme song for the GOP Convention should be "Puttin' out the fire with gasoline..."? (See how I snuck that in?) Can we perhaps show a little more of the aforementioned restraint when we go to click on the "Add New Diary Entry" link? Is that a bad idea? Let me know what you think, and try not to be snarky like me.
While we are at it... most threads offer a veritable smorgasbord of opportunities for really ironic jokes. The less intellectual among us, including myself, sometimes resort to lots of jokey comments in threads when we have nothing of value to offer. Does this lessen the value of the thread overall? Does it water-down the intellectually stimulating conversation for others?
I want this goddam fantastic effing community to stay vibrant and alive. Should we police ourselves a little more to ensure this? Can we?
Another disclaimer: I have wasted a ton of space/time here. Those days are over. But don't hold me to that!
And now, of course, a meaningless poll.
