Sorry about posting a second diary, but I looking into the mystery of the middle name of Alberto R. Gonzales, Bush's nominee for attorney general.
It struck me while reading a biography of him that, unless he has a serious medical problem, he ought to be an excellent candidate for being called to active duty in Iraq.
Here is an
excerpt from a Gonzales biography entry:
1955 - Born August 4, in San Antonio, Texas. He was raised in Houston with 7 brothers and sisters.
1973-1975 - Served in the US Air Force.
1975-1977 - Attended the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado
1979 - Recieved his B.A from Rice University in Houston, Texas
1982 - Juris doctor (law degree) from Harvard Law School, Cambridge, Massachusetts
The Wikipedia says Gonzales served in the Air Force in Fort Yukon, Alaska.
Given that this guy only served for 2 years on active duty, then got some free education from the Air Force Academy before transferring to Rice, why hasn't the military activated him?
Gonzales 49, but there are guys in their 50s being called up, and it sounds as if military law experts might be in great demand in Iraq.
Really, given how important the Bush people think the war in Iraq is and the fact that the White House would be sure to hold Gonzales' job open, and maybe even make up for any salary gap while he was on active duty, you've got to wonder why he isn't volunteering to go to Iraq.
