Dont miss this one. It's about us and Im guessing its a gem, albeit a sad one, as the title states.
I urge fellow Kossovars to WATCH or TAPE Chalmers Johnson, (author of Blowback), on Cspan today, at 10:00 PM EST. He is discussing the theme of his newest book, "The Sorrows of Empire", in a one-on-one, hour-long interview.
I caught the tail end of this show last weekend and was so impressed that I wrote Cspan urging them to repeat it, as they often do on Booknotes. I'm very glad they are. What little I saw makes me expect a fascinating critique, full of ominous notes, backed by history and current events. It seems that Johnson's view is the sort of unvarnished, invaluable storytelling and perspective about our own country, which we too rarely get.
A bit about the author and show, below.

The Sorrows of Empire: Militarism, Secrecy, and the End of the Republic
Chalmers Johnson
<<Description: From the Los Angeles Public Library, Chalmers Johnson discusses "The Sorrows of Empire," in which he condemns US foreign policy. Johnson likens the United States to a modern-day Roman Empire, a nation thriving on fear and military domination. He argues that the ultimate purpose of US military bases is not to maintain stability or promote democracy, but to defend US hegemony. He traces US world domination from the Cold War to today, then claims American militarism is irreversibly damaging its Constitution and the trust of its people.>>
<<Author Bio: Chalmers Johnson is president of the Japan Policy Research Institute and a professor emeritus at the University of California in San Diego. He is the author of fifteen books, including "Peasant Nationalism and Communist Power" and "Blowback: The Costs and Consequences of American Empire," which won the 2001 American Book Award of the Before Columbus Foundation. He has also written numerous articles and contributes frequently to the "Los Angeles Times" and the "Nation.">>
