I would love to see a candidate for Congress, either a Democrat or Republican, make this a major part of their candidacy in 2006 against an incumbent. Yes, I know, it is a political nonstarter in Congress at this time, and that isn't the point. And it isn't about Congress bashing. I'm convinced that we're not going to get anywhere on the health insurance debate until members of Congress actually understand the issues as a consumer. I'm pretty sure they don't, and it is time for that ignorance to come out in a campaign or two, with the possibility of the issue gaining traction in the future. And it would be useful to have the incumbent arguments supporting high quality health insurance for members of Congress - the values for America, the costs to America - for part of a larger future discussion about health care in this nation.
Anyone know of any candidates that have such a plank at this point? I haven't seen any.
