Yet another case of the "mystery sources" who get all the weight in the national papers, while local reporters and bloggers with the real story are ignored.
Details inside.
The sources with names say:
The Stamford Advocate, Aug. 4:
Leiberman denied reports that he's abandoning other get-out-the vote efforts, such as phonebanking and voter canvassing. "We're going to have more paid workers on Election Day, not even counting volunteers, than I've ever had in any campaign I've had before," said Lieberman, following a rally with a building trades union in Hartford. "All I can tell you is, we are focused on the most aggressive get-out-the-vote operation that I have ever had."
Maura @ myleftnutmeg, Aug 4:
I [Maura] have had to drive by the Lieberman HQ in my city twice today. This morning, it was a beehive of LieberStaffer activity - the kind of crowded chaos that any experienced political volunteer recognizes as a healthy sign in the last few days of a campaign.
The sources with no names say:
New York Times, Aug 5:
People affiliated with the campaign said it had dropped plans for a far-reaching and expensive get-out-the-vote effort that would have added as many as 4,000 new workers and volunteers to the campaign in its final days.
Washington Post, Aug 4:
Facing a likely defeat, Lieberman has scrapped plans for a massive and costly get-out-the-vote operation on primary day, according to several Democratic sources.
