Thursday, ABC affiliates in at least eight states, Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina and West Virginia, refused to air "Saving Private Ryan." ABC has aired the movie uncut and unedited in 2001 and 2002 to honor our veterans and both of those occassions went without incident. However, affiliates refused to air the movie because they feared hefty FCC fines. This indicates the level of fear that the Bush Administration and the FCC have instilled in what is supposed to be an independent media. They have taken a program that was meant to honor our veterans and made it so that the decent people running these affiliate stations are afraid that they will be sued, fined or lose their license. I suppose that when you're a Republican you only honor the glory of war, not the gory details.
