Max Sawicky (
http://www.maxspeak.org/...) writes that rather than do the difficult and possibly expensive work to design policies that facilitate upward mobility for low income families, Dubya et alia have decided It is much easier simply to eliminate the main government survey. The Repubs seem to reason, "When we longer have to hear about the problem, there is no problem. And, it saves money too!"
Repubs are eliminating funding for the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP) in the 2007 budget. This survey is the government's main tool for tracking the well-being of families receiving TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), food stamps, and other income supports.
Remember, welfare reform in the 1990s imposed strict work requirements and time limits on welfare families. Welfare reform is a success, we are told often when (if) the subject comes up; but now that we aren't even collecting the numbers, there is absolutely no accountability.
That's some way to run a business let alone a government, Mr Harvard MBA and Mr Big Business VP. It certainly looks like you guys want to kill us, either actively of through neglect.
