Wes Clark asks Democrats to email Joe Lieberman and tell him NOT to run in the general election. Furthermore, he tells Joe in his open letter that there is NO "antisecurity" wing of the Democratic Party. No kidding. You tell him, Wes.
Clark stated weeks ago that he would support the winner of the CT-Sen primary in the general election. As would any good Democrat. I just received an email from WesPAC. It's not on the website that I can tell, but here are some key points from the email:
On Tuesday, the message sent by Connecticut voters was loud and clear. They want change, and they want Ned Lamont to represent them in the U.S. Senate, voting for Ned by a 52% - 48% margin over Senator Joe Lieberman in the Democratic primary.
You see, despite what Joe Lieberman believes, invading Iraq and diverting our attention away from Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden is not being strong on national security. Blind allegiance to George W. Bush and his failed "stay the course" strategy is not being strong on national security. And no, Senator Lieberman, no matter how you demonize your opponents, there is no "antisecurity wing" of the Democratic Party.
Republicans today are making silly noises about how they may urge Republicans to vote for an independent Lieberman candidacy in November.
B.S.
Republicans are hoping that Joementum will split the Democrats, allowing an opening for their candidate. They would love to take that Senate seat from the Democrats. As Wes says:
as a party we cannot let Joe Lieberman be this year's Ralph Nader.
I firmly believe that even pro-Joe Democrats in Connecticut will vote for Lamont in November. Lamont has a lot going for him, and they're going to see that more and more. They're going to be eager, as we are, for a Democrat who doesn't enable BushCo.
