Recent memos reveal that the British
intentionally lost the War of 1812 in order to be able to pull their troops out in advance of the American Civil War. Highly precient civilian strategists in the George III administration postulated that, left to their own devices, the colonists would decend into sectarian in-fighting. This would lead to civil war, providing an opportunity for the United Kingdom to re-take the Colonies, and allowing Monarchy to blossom in the western hemisphere.
William Pitt is cited as saying that "we will be greeted as liberators, and provided with tea, cotton and tobacco."
