Roll Call:
Sanford heads to court over military duty
During last year's race for governor in South Carolina, former Rep. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) decided that joining the Air Force Reserve might give his campaign an extra boost. The move may have helped him win the election, but now he finds himself in apparent violation of the state's Constitution, which prohibits the governor from holding any outside "office or other commission."

Sanford, a second lieutenant in the Air Force Reserve, is the defendant in a case before the South Carolina Supreme Court that could, if he loses, invalidate his election and every piece of legislation that he has signed in law.
Few legal experts expect that to happen, but the case has put the governor in an embarrassing legal bind.
Last week, sounding somewhat less patriotic than he did during the campaign, Sanford offered to quit the Air Force to keep his job as governor.
Critics contend Sanford's enlistment was a ploy to win votes that backfired when it looked as if he might be called up for active duty in Iraq.
Chris Drummond, Sanford's press secretary, said his boss's decision to join the Air Force had nothing to do with running for governor.
"I fell in love with the United States military during my six years in Congress," Sanford told the justices. He enlisted, he said, to set an example for his four sons.
What a moron. How many votes could you possibly get by joining the Air Force a few months before an election?
Furthermore you would think that someone in his campaign would point out what he did was illegal. Or it just shows the Republican's new plan of intentionally breaking the law for no real benefit.
