I want to gauge possible support for this idea, so if you like the idea then leave a tip or hit the recommend bar. I will follow up if there is a good response or go back to the drawing boards if there is not.
I want to work with other Texas bloggers to create an open source blog (I don't think we need anything more fancy than a blog on blogger with a bunch of members) to document statements and actions of the Texas right wing. (As a side note, I think big group blogs of the kind I am describing should be run by liberals in each state as part of the "50 state" campaign.)
From what we have seen today with John Cornyn, as with Tom DeLay, Sam Johnson and others all over our great state, they just cannot help themselves. The Texas conservatives do damage to themselves every single day, but much of it goes
unreported and uncompiled. That has to change. We have to reveal the nature of Texas conservatism--a truly unique blend of extreme and unwise advocacies coupled now with very real power. In 2006, all Texas Democrats should be able to speak confidently about what conservatism in this state is, what it advocates, and why it is unacceptable to most Texans. This is a state that has a long tradition of independence and creativity. The American Taliban is not representative of most Texans, but it does certainly speak loudly in Texas politics today. Only 11 short years ago, we had a Democratic governor.
Here is how it will work:
We will run a very big group blog much in the same way that the diaries at MyDD and DailyKos are run. It will be open to wide participation. I will act as the "editor." Mostly, I will just be in charge of adding bloggers to the list of contributors. The idea here is to get as much participation as possible from bloggers all over the state. We want to be a one stop shop for information in the media, in speeches you attend, events that the conservatives here put on, etc about Texas conservatism. Once it is up and running, we can use the blog as a place to attract media attention to the kinds of stories we are breaking, compiling and finding.
This is about compiling information on a specific topic using the power of the blogosphere in a large state. Democrats need ammunition, especially in Red Texas. But this week's poll of Tom DeLay's district shows that the time is ripe for a coordinated assault on the corruption and actions of the right wingers in Texas.
When a wingnut from Texas reveals the true nature of the clowns who now run our state, a large open-source blog will be there to document it. If you are interested and are a Texas blogger, leave a comment with your email address (say you are a Texas blogger) or email me at garemkoreport-at-yahoo-dot-com with the subject "Texas Blog". Also leave a comment if you have a good name suggestion.
Let's get it started. It is time to make conservative a dirty word in Texas.
