MR. RUSSERT: Do you believe President Bush failed the American people on September 11?
MS. HUGHES: I believe al-Qaeda committed an act of war against our country, Tim, and one of the things--I remember sitting at my house in Austin, Texas, and I was watching [Richard Clarke's] testimony on television, just like much of America was, and I remember thinking at the time: this is wrong. And I understand, and all of us mourn and share the sense of sorrow felt by the victims. We all--I lost a friend. I'm sure you lost friends. We all share that sorrow. But I don't believe--and what I worry about what Mr. Clarke said is it creates a misplaced sense of responsibility.
