Reading the first point of the five-point plan for President Bush's resurgence, I'm struck at how ... Nazi ... esque the Guns and Badges ploy seems. The economy (and President) is tanking, so let's focus on an ethnic group that will incite support among the people? Yeah, that's worked well in the past. The undocumented immigrants in America are not the security threat that will be talked about when Homeland Security shows up at the border.
They'll talk about terrorism and remind us of the September 11th attacks. But they won't say that terrorists came illegally through the US-Mexican border. Because there's no proof (that I could find) that they did. It's sickening to me that they're going to use this type of ploy to divide and conquer - to get Joe American's mind off of the great tragedies facing out country and instead to supporting the rounding up and deportation of a people.
Is illegal immigration problematic? Yes. While I certainly agree that almost all immigration, since 1600, to what we now know as the United States has been illegal - I do recognize that the Federal Government has the right to establish who can come here and how they can do so. But why not take a pragmatic and compassionate approach to this situation, considering undocumented immigrants are struggling to make ends meet while the people legislating their lives and legality are eating well in large houses?
