Thursday morning I leave the country for 17 of the next 20 days. I will finally get a reprieve from all of the bitching, moaning and sniping that have taken over both the news and the political message boards. The last month has been the worst, as would be expected, with more and more people throwing out some of the most divisive and insipid things.
I've had people who were not even born the first time I voted tell me I don't have a clue about politics. These same people aren't even old enough to have a clear memory of when Clinton was first elected. Some of their parents weren't even in High School the first time my parents got me involved canvassing for Richard Lambs first run for office. Yet they tell me that I have no clue about elections.
So this Thursday, when the 1,000,000 person tells you that Dean is unelectable, I will be on the beach with a margarita in hand. I will then move to the jacuzzi for a few shots of Tequilla, blissfully unaware that Howard Dean is not a liberal (or is too liberal). And for one solid week I will not have to read the numerous attacks that will be parroted in the SCLM and here at dKos regardless of the validity of any of them.
.
After that I come home for 3 days to repack and leave for France. I will spend a couple of days in Paris, unaware that Howard Dean has said something else that, while true, is a candidacy ending gaffe. Then up to the French Alps to visit my father in law and Ski. A few days of snow and fun and it is off to Nice. There my wife and I plan to walk along the Mediteranian and the streets looking at the beautiful sea side city. Again unaware of the fact that Howard Dean has driven the party off a cliff and ended the modern world as we know it.
I'm sure I will see some news of the goings on here at home. But thankfully I will not have to see the endless "warnings" of the people trying to save me from myself. I will be home in time to see the Feb. 3rd contests. Hopefully by then the race will be almost over and we can try and mend fences with the people we have offended for no other reason than our belief that we back the best candidate to meet our objective.
In the end we are all Democrats or Independants who want the same thing. An end to the horrors of the current administration
