Sadly I made the mistake this morning of signing onto AOL and reading two articles that turned my stomach.
Though it has been a year since the first torture pictures, now we find out that the Army destroyed pictures:

And worse, if you go to the ABC link you will see the famous picture of a soldier smiling over a dead Iraqi, problem is that now they say the CIA tortured the dead man to death.

I initially titled this post "not in my name" as I am disgusted by what this administration is doing in the name of "democracy" and "freedom." There is no justification for torture, it is proven that the information one obtains from torture isn't reliable, it creates more hatred, and it is immoral.
Over and over we hear about the "moral values" of this administration, yet they lie about everything, including the widespread, systematic torture that has happened in Iraq, Afghanistan and Cuba. Worse, many Americans are supporting this torture as a way to "get them before they get us."
We said that Saddam was evil for doing exactly what we now allow our military to do, torture prisoners. These prisoners have had no trial, they have had no chance to defend themselves, they have had every right taken from them and we then turn around and say Iraq is moving towards "democracy?"
When those in our nation can convince themselves that torture is justified, and at the same time claim they are "christians" there is an evil lurking within the very fabric of our society that I just can't begin to describe.
Let me be clear, torture is wrong, it is immoral, it is NON christian, it is against every tenant of a "free and democratic" society. The fact that we have supported torture, that we have turned a blind eye to an administrations support of such actions, goes farther to fuel the hate for us in Iraq than any amount of "information" one might get from torture.
Not in my name, and any American who justifies these actions is as unpatriotic as they come.
