It's official. The Bush Administration, acting as proxies for the radical Christian right, can now be seen to be
objectively pro-death. My favorite graf: " Activists in both Uganda and the United States say the country is now in the grip of condom shortage so severe that men are using plastic garbage bags in an effort to protect themselves.
"There is no question in my mind that the condom crisis in Uganda is being driven and exacerbated by PEPFAR and by the extreme policies that the administration in the U.S. is now pursuing in the emphasis on abstinence," Lewis told journalists on a teleconference."
More below the fold....
It will be interesting (in the stomach-churning sense of the word) to see what the numbers in the next few years look like for Uganda - as well as the rest of AIDS-stricken Africa: will they start going back up again, in contrast to their against-the-grain decline during the early to mid '90s? It will be even more interesting to see the contortions into which the Dobson acolytes twist themselves in an attempt to explain the consistency of a "culture of life" which frets over every lost stem cell, but doesn't mind babies being born into crushing poverty, with AIDS. Welcome to the New World Ordure.
