Kos is marvelous--wish I'd discovered it sooner. At the same time (though I'm new), I understand concerns recently expressed by some Kossacks. Three came up repeatedly:
1. Diary quality
2. How quickly diaries fall off the page
3. The role of cliques in recommending diaries.
Before addressing those issues, I'd like to add one of my own: useless titles.
"Let them F*ck Themselves" might draw attention but says
nothing about content. Readers have
no idea what was on a diarist's mind when he/she came up with a title that fails to indicate the topic. Maybe diarists should be strongly urged to use more accurate titles.
About other Kossacks' concerns
First, I wasn't aware of the clique issue until reading the concerns (again, I'm new). Little can be done about it, anyway.
Second, to keep good diaries from quickly disappearing (which allows very few people to see them), maybe there should be a separate section for short posts (like Political Cortex). Maybe there could be a minimum-word requirement on diaries.
Another option might be to decrease the weekly diary-limit to 3 or 4, which would work nicely if you had a short-post section with a higher limit (for breaking news & free-form musings).
Third, I can't comment on diary quality. Kos has such a wonderful "marketplace of ideas," because people are allowed to express themselves uncensored.
