Democratic Presidential Candidate and retired General Wesley Clark has recently stated support for a constitutional amendment to allow Congress to ban physical desecration of the American Flag. In other words, the Flag-Burning Amendment, which has been proposed (and defeated) again and again over the last few years. I'm sure I will surprise precisely no one when I say that I oppose this amendment.

Breaking with most of his Democratic rivals, retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark said Tuesday he favors amending the Constitution to ban flag burning.
Lawmakers have debated such an amendment almost annually since 1989, when the Supreme Court ruled that destroying the American flag amounted to protected free speech.
In June, the Republican-controlled House approved a one-line change to the Constitution "The Congress shall have power to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag of the United States" for the fifth time in eight years. The Senate never has passed the proposed amendment.
