I've seen a couple of diaries and several posts from posters saying they've given "$25.02" ("throwing in our two cents") or "$1.44" (just to hopefully prompt curiousity) to Edwards or Kerry. The main message these posters were wanting to send was, "I was/am a Dean supporter and believe strongly in his message."
There are Republicans for Dean/Kerry/Edwards, Maryland for D/K/E, etc. to both reach out to specific communities and show the level of those communities' interest and effort.
How about Dean(-iacs, -ies, etc) for Edwards and Dean(-iacs, -ies, etc) for Kerry? Something to remind them exactly who is sending those checks and volunteering for that canvassing.
I became a Democrat because I was upset with what happened to the Republican Party and realized there wasn't any turning it around anytime soon and that whoever the Democrats put up against Bush was going to be at least somewhat better. I wanted at least a little say in who they nominated.
I became an active Democrat when I learned about Dean. I feel that I have more politically in common with other Dean supporters who are still registered Republican/Independent/Libertarian than I do long-time active Democrats. It seems many other Dean supporters in this for the first time feel similarly.
We're Dean Democrats, using "Dean" as a shorthand for "social libertarians who think that fiscal matters must be settled before we can try to use government to do good things but who do not enjoy the corporatism of the DLC." Something of a party within a party, perhaps.
