Dear Chairman Dean,
I'll resist the obvious temptation to suggest that you apologize to Joseph Stalin -- although it would certainly be unfair to compare one of history's most-dangerous lunatics to the former Soviet dictator.
Instead, let's look at the actual words you used to describe Katherine Harris' role in the 2000 election: "[She] didn't understand that it is ethically improper to be the chairman of a campaign and count the votes at the same time. This is not Russia and she is not Stalin."
You clearly stated that "she is NOT Stalin" (emphasis added).
These Republicans are a frail and sensitive lot. Mere words wound them deeply, so I urge you to grant her demand for an apology. It was wrong to call her "not Stalin" and you should pledge never again to draw any distinction between the two.
It's the least you can do for this poor woman who has done so much for so many (ex) campaign staffers.
