Bush is running as the anti-terrorist icon. Who do you trust more after a terrorist strikes? Bush or Kerry? Ah, but who is more likely to preside over a terrorist strike? Bush or Kerry?
Last week, I posted a diary entry suggesting that we take preemptive action on one of Bush's planks by propagating the meme that America is more vulnerable to terrorism because of Bush.
Surely, my logic went, the major difference between 9/11/2000 and 9/11/2001 was not AlQida's strength or cleverness or willingness to get us, but merely that we had a president who didn't do enough to prevent it.
And some folks took me to task for suggesting this.
But after watching Richard Clarke this Sunday on Meet the Press, it is clear that I was right. Not only did Clinton prevent major terrorism by handling things the way that he did, but Bush did nothing to prevent major terrorism after being warned it was coming.
So, start the meme with me... "there is no question that we are more vulnerable to terrorism now than when Bush took office... the only question is whether we're more vulnerable because Bush took office."
