Firstly, long time lurker, first diary.... If my employer could only put a price on all the time I've been hoovering up the postings here rather than being a good worker bee....I almost feel guilty....
...So, I have a question that has been sitting in the back of my mind for a while now:
Why is BushCo going through all the obviously disastrous political gymnastics to authorize specific groups to utilize torture when the could just do it anyway and hope it stays buried or not worry about it at all
My guesses after the fold............
My first guess would be that they must have some serious f--king skeletons in their torture closet such that they want to write a free pass for those perpetrators before they are revealed. The leak regarding the secret international "gulags" most certainly implies torture is in the SOP, so maybe cover your asses by getting the techniques legalized
My second guess is that maybe they are hoping to write a free pass to all higher ups who will eventually be implicated in the various known Guantanamo and Abu Gharib abuses as are country potentially steers back towards sanity and these illegalities are brought to light. Let's face it, the knucklehead enlisted types who got charged so far were not capable of doing this on there own (and I'm sure the soon to be released (well, hopefully released) AbGharb pics will only show it to be even more systematic).
My final guess would be that Bushco is hoping to project some kind of image that says: "Don't f--k with us or we'll hook your nuts to the car battery" at both foreign and domestic opponents.
Who is the bird chirping in G Wpe's ear saying, "don't mind the public, tell em some folks gotta torture and that the way it is...."
