Media bias and Norm Ornstein
Al Franken's dear friend apparently did not read Al's book: Lies and the lying liars or he would have kept his fingers away from the keyboard.
This is his latest brainchild at Huffpo
Some analysis and such after the flip
In this propaganda-piece from
Huffpo he tells us the following:
A few days ago, Matt Drudge had a fascinating link from the Ottawa Citizen. It was a story about numerous emails sent by UN observer Maj. Hess-von Kruedener, a Canadian who was killed in the bombing in Lebanon sent in the days before his death.
Ok, this is the story:
http://www.canada.com/...
Great.
Norm sees this:
This has not been deliberate targeting, but rather due to tactical necessity.
And then he starts. He only takes one sentence, not the ones with IDF attacks, but something else:
What did he mean by the last sentence? Of course, he meant that Hezbollah was operating right underneath the UN observation post, sending rockets and firing on Israeli forces-- a variation on the standard Hezbollah practice of placing its forces and weapons in the midst of civilian populations to get the Israelis to inflict maximum damage on innocents.
Underneath? strong, loaded word, Norm. Anyone who has ever bothered to look for any info, or asked from UN personnel, can not claim that they did not know that Hezbollah is using the loop-holes in the rules. Underneath? Not in the vicinity? The Outpost seems to have a barbed wire surrounding the outpost, but of course that does not guarantee that Hezbollah would stay away. However, i do not think that they wen't underneath the building. I guess even that would be possible, but IDF knows that the rules do not allow much for the unarmed observers.
snip ...none that I saw mentioned the Canadian major's emails, or suggested that at the time the UN was warning Israel not to bomb near the observation post, it was also warning Hezbollah to stay away from the post and stop firing rockets, anti-tank missiles, grenade launchers, or other weapons from nearby. Was it? I would welcome evidence that it was indeed standing up to Hezbollah's despicable tactics of using human shields.
Blame the victims, thanks norm.
Israel has used human shields, so much that the Israeli high court told them not to do so. You, Norm, didn't mention that. Why?Is it because you don't like facts. Pot calling kettle black. Both are wrong, one claims to be a civilized country. At least the other is just a terrororist organization.
Just a few minutes ago, CNN did a report on the death of the UN observers, including an anguished statement by the major's widow. Then, CNN put up an edited excerpt from his email: "The closest artillery has landed within 2 meters of our position and the closest 1000 lb aerial bomb has landed 100 meters from our patrol base." It omitted the last sentence, i.e., "This has not been deliberate targeting, but rather due to tactical necessity."
If I had not read the quote in the Ottawa Citizen, the CNN coverage would have gone right past me. But I immediately noticed the artful and clearly deliberate decision to omit the one sentence that changed entirely the implications of what Major Hess- von Kruedener was writing.
It was omitted because it took a neat story with stark moral lines and made it more, shall we say, complicated. By any standard, the decision to omit this line is bias, plain and simple.
Well, Norm. these are the facts:
You have, just like other similar propagandists, received this:
(picture from a desktop software that sends orders to willing sheeps)
Or perhaps you didn't need to, maybe you really think like that.
How ever, there is no information that there was any activity underneath the outpost. There is information that other outposts have been "used" as a "shield", but those reports did not mention this particualr outpost. You failed to mention that the outpost repeatedly called for the Israelis to stop the bombing. They did not.
You did not mention that Israel had promised not to hit that outpost. You did not say that Israel promised a safe passage for the rescue team. They were fired upon, they had to stay away from the place. The fourth body is still there. Why did you, Norm, omit these little nuggets?
You failed to mention that the right wing ( that you are part of, AEI is enough) used misleading pictures :
The author of this gem has also produced a real Pulitzer- winner: "Inside the Asylum: Why the U.N. and Old Europe Are Worse Than You Think".
Link
Not the real pictures that were available (source):
Why, Norm, have your pals used the misleading picture?
The operation has been going on for a long time (since 1948), I could show you some pretty misleading pictures, but you or your friends will have to do some digging.
Muddy waters
You are so low that you are using dead man's words to attack him. What a gentleman you are, Norm. And you did not quote the whole story, you left out the critical part: no evidence that there was Hezbollah underneath the outpost that horrible day. We do not know but you, Norm, did not mention that. You, like your pals, are muddying the waters on purpose.
At the moment there is not too much information available. However, killing unarmed UN observers is unforgivable and also illegal ( surprise). The general hatred towards the UN in Israel is a fact, after all the UN has done something that the US really does, they have criticized Israel! ( and they created the country too).
Why didn't they leave?
Some smarty pants have asked, why did those men stay there? As usual, they are there as long as parties will guarantee their safety. In Sri Lanka Similar observers left after the Tamil's did not guarantee their safety. http://news.bbc.co.uk/.... Israel promised that they would not target those observers, that's why they did not leave. I guess someone lied?
UN & Hezbollah
UN has connection's to Hezbollah, remember, it is also a political movement. The UN has refused to comment on how the messages are delivered ( I suppose IDF would like to know?). What they have promised, no one knows. Observers are supposed to use radio without scrambling so that all parties can listen to the traffic. Observers can not interfere in any way in any action in the area.
UN Bashing
I have read lot UN bashing online, Alan Dershowitz is just one of the gems ( search yourself). Btw, Alan defended OJ and now Israel, I see a pattern..
Some dems have defended the UN during the Bolton hearings, Obama being one of the good guys.
The media war is interesting, perhaps Norm will learn something. Then again, I bought a lottery ticket.
More Norm
You, Norm, omitted so much information and tried to muddy the waters deliberately in order to participate in the media bias against anyone that is a muslim or an arab that you should be ashamed of yourself. You could have done this in a professional manner, you could have mentioned that there is not all that much information available and that the current information does not support what you wrote. Perhaps an investigation will show that you were quite right, but at the moment you are just a douche bag.
Norm Ornstein, you are a misleading hack with no spine.
Ps. your performance on Air America radio sucks, big time. Doing the same thing million times is not funny.( 50 % of the people think that you suck, and the rest know that you suck.)
PS (2) imo Hezbollah is full of shit but sadly Israel tries to make them look good. Perhaps not using same methods as Hezbollah would be a good idea. I would like to see the media treat Israel as a civilized country that does not care about international law and repeatedly elects either criminals or just nuts (Ramon). Not that her neigbours are any better. They don't have to elect those guys but have them without
And sorry to hear about the shooting incident in Seattle.
