Among the only hopes that Bush has these days is for Osama Bin Laden to rear his ugly head up from whatever cave he is currently dwelling, and deliver a greeting Al-Qaeda style to the American people on American soil.
Or for Iran or Syria to launch a missile attack upon our troops in Iraq (fat chance of that happening).
Or for North Korea to threaten nuclear war on South Korea or us.
Because, and this may be the one thing we have going for ourselves, in light of the fact that our government failed to learn its Vietnam mistakes for a second time, we won't be getting ourselves involved in another ill-conceived war, no matter what the neocons say or threaten. To do so now would risk erupting bloody hell that even the President doesn't want to unleash here at home.
As crazy and dumb as Bush is, I do not believe that he will have the nerve to launch another pre-emptive attack on another sovereign nation, unless one of the above actions occurs. Not having enough resources as needed in Iraq, there is no way he'll have enough to endure another military intervention, not unless he wants to completely cut Medicaid and Medicare, and even Social Security (not privitize but cut) to help fund it, and then institute a draft to get the manpower he needs.
If there is anything I can tell you it is that we won't stand for that, and Bush would have to be a complete and total idiot not to realize that. But, then again, his arrogance may be his undoing, because life will be hell in this country for many folks if Bush launches another attack elsewhere. We won't stand for it. I'm willing to bet you that millions of the 55 million who voted wisely on November 2nd won't allow Bush to draft him or her, or their daughter or son, or brother or sister, or father or mother, or even grandfather or grandmother to fight for Bush and his neocon agenda.
"Fuck that," they'll say. Not only that, I wouldn't put it past the American people to go nuclear on the have-mores, demanding they relinquish some of their funds, and even loved ones, to help pay and fight, respectively, for this travesty of a foreign policy.
If Bush wants to threaten, and I mean really threaten, the possibility of civil unrest and war in this country, he'll go along with another pre-emptive attack. If one of the above scenarios does happen, however, we may find ourselves forced to do the unthinkable, and join in the fight. But, then again, we warned them about this, but they didn't listen, and these countries who are adversaries have the means, with a simple order, to make life for us worse than we can ever imagine. Still, regardless of what happens, we must understand that Bush's policies and actions have led us to this point - to where we cannot afford another war without seriously crippling some aspect of this country.
There are some things Americans are willing to take, but another pre-emptive war is out of the question, and you can bet your ass that many, and I do mean many, Americans will raise hell if that is the case. That alone may give us cause to relax from having to seriously worry about Bush starting another war.
