Hi to all you guys. I am an airman in the Air Force and I have been a kossack for a long time now. I was one of those who just kinda watched and read posts but never really posted. Today i decided to post my first diary on here because I need an opinion from somebody who is familiar with military law.
First of all for those of you who are not familiar with the military let me just give you guys a quick overview. In the Air Force we have this person (first shirt) whos sole task is to make sure that their is a high morale and discipine among the enlisted folks like me. He/She is the link between the commander (officer) and his/her people (enlisted). As an Airman and as somebody who is fairly new (1 year), I am housed in a dormitory on base.
Now what happened was today I had a visit from my first shirt in my room. My room was actualy pretty clean, in fact I could say that it was fairly cleaner than most of the other rooms. I was expecting a compliment or a tap in the back from him but instead I got a scolding. He noticed the poster I had of Bob Marley smoking dope. Personally I dont think there was anything wrong with the picture. First of all I still have the right to put what ever poster I want to in my room right? After all that is the very right I am helping defend right now. The only reason I had that picture in there is because it is a pretty tight picure, its a work of art, its beautiful. Second of all I am a big reggae music fan and I absolutely adore Bob Marley. Now I stil maintain that right while in the military correct? I guess what they were mad about is because of the dope. But come on now, it doesnt necessarily mean that because I have that poster in my room I smoke dope. Personally I havent even tried dope even once!
Then he called other NCO's (supervisors) and showed them that poster. The other supervisors noticed the second poster which is of Che Guevarra. They started asking me who it was so I replied its is Che Guevarra. They they asked me what is he famous for, then I told them what I knew which is that he is famous in South America. Frankly I am not a scholar or a super smart kid so that is really all I know about him. The reason I have that picture in there is because its beautiful, nice, and its simply tight. Its a classic for Christ's sake!
So basically is they started giving me shit because of those two posters. In fact the first shirt wants me to take it off and show it to my supervisor. So my question now is, do I have the right to keep those posters acording to military law?
Thanks a lot kossacks for your help! I look forward to your answers.
UPDATE!!!
Thanks a lot for the good advice from you all. Really appreciate it. I think what I'm gonna do is take down both posters and replace them with MLK and a diffrent Bob Marley poster. Although it's gonna be a real pain in the ass to do this because I really like those two posters. But at least I now have a btter understanding of who Che Guevarra is. And just for the record no I'm not a troll. I'm a certiofied kossack and a registered democrat. I a member of MoveOn and in fact I helped out during the 2004 election with their GOTV. Right now I am volunterring for the Alliance for a Better California, this is the organization opposing Arnold's initiatives. So yea I am a DEM and a true and proud DEM at that!
