I'm going over an old diary of mine, something I wrote last July, and about three or four times I laughed out loud at some comments by Kosmopolitan
Addison. If you follow that link, you'll see that Addison hasn't commented in a long time. Other than a
brief comment celebrating Kaine's victory, he's been silent since the end of September. But I know where he is; even though he didn't name the site in his
"GBCW" diary, he's in one of the 'Stans working for the Peace Corps.
But how many other people that you used to see and whose comments you enjoyed aren't around anymore? Whenever I go back and look at an old thread, I'm struck by the huge number of commenters whose comments I used to see regularly who aren't around very often, if at all. Some are just busy with other things. al fubar (Rick Robinson) I know is working on a historical novel. demtom--the saviest political observer I've ever interacted with at DKos--still occassionally stops by, but his comments are a fraction of what they were pre-Scoop and in the early days of Scoop. [We're honored and fortunate to have them periodically contribute to our discussions at The Next Hurrah.]
hamletta I really miss; NOBODY could smack down stupidity with the wit and outrageous color that she mustered up on a regular basis. I know she was involved in some kind of research or something dealing with child development, and I know she also got "outed" by someone on Daily Kos, so maybe she's just swore off the site. That would be a shame, because she was a fierce adversary for non-Dean people during the primaries, and an even fiercer adversary for anyone promoting the idea Kerry wasn't worth anyone's effort in the fall of 2004.
And some will judge this as proof that I'm a dick, but I admit it, exasperating as he could occassionally be even to me, I miss Petey at DKos. There's something about the gleeful trash-talking that obviously doesn't go over well with some well-intentioned Kosmopolitans; he doesn't always judge his audience well. But he's a very, very savvy guy (even when he's wrong), and he did have great taste in enemies, since many of the people who most hated Petey have themselves flamed out of DKos.
But my tastes aren't universal, and there are certainly some people who wish it was me who left DKos instead of some of the people some of you miss. And there are definitely many names that could come up in this discussion that I haven't thought much of, but would think "yeah, I haven't seen so and so for a while" like I did today when for the first time in ages I ran into Sheffield.
So who do you miss? And who would you love to pop up on this thread saying "the rumors of my DKos death are greatly exagerated?"
