We have finally found something in this country that we can export - jobs. I have heard rumors about more companies moving their IT operations to India. This news is from the inside and you won't see it in the papers until it actually happens, if at all. There is legislation flying around congress to stem this tide, but there is no way it is going to get passed. The CEOs and the executives of these companies don't want it passed and they are the ones contributing to PrancerCo II.
What is interesting here is that it is the highly-skilled, highly-educated (and highly-priced) labor that is being affected. This segment of the population tends to be libertarian and lean towards the Republican Party. I know, because I am part of this demographic, although I have given up my libertarian and Republican leanings.
This group scoffed at the manufacturing jobs leaving the country. They said things like, "If you are too stupid to get a higher education, then you get what you deserve." And, "Why should someone who drills bolts into a panel deserve to make a decent wage?" They hate the minimum wage increases because it makes the crap they buy more expensive. They hate immigrants because they suck up welfare and send their kids to public school. They are all for school vouchers. They hate unions because they feel that there are already too many regulations protecting workers, making products more expensive. They don't like clean air regulations for cars because it means their SUVs are more expensive.
So it is with a great deal of irony that this segment of the population, the educated, skilled worker, is now being replaced like a burnt-out light bulb. This group is the upper-middle class that supports restaurants, higher-end track homes and the luxury car market. They are rapidly depleting. I wonder if their education will help them realize that they made a serious mistake?
